The Secund Look Track-and-Trace Practice Lab teaches cannabis inventory logic through a continuous fictional cultivation scenario. Inventory created in the first exercise will follow the learner through plant tracking, flowering, harvest, package creation, and final reconciliation.
This Practice Lab uses fictional inventory and a Secund Look interface. It is not official Metrc software, is not connected to a state regulatory account, and does not replace official Metrc or state-required training.

Create & Manage a Clone Batch
Your first job is to review a real-world propagation event and make sure the fictional tracking records accurately describe what happened to the inventory.
Physical Cultivation Activity
Redwood Training Cultivation begins with a fictional source batch containing
100 Lemon Cherry Gelato clones.
The clone batch is identified as
LCG-CLONE-001.
During propagation, 10 clones fail.
The cultivation team identifies 90 viable clones that are ready to move forward into the next immature plant batch.
Cultivation employee Maya Chen moves those 90 viable plants into
Propagation Room A on August 13, 2026.
The 10 failed clones are physically no longer viable, but for this exercise the original source-batch record has not yet been adjusted or finished. That unresolved quantity will remain visible so we can deal with it later in the training lifecycle.
Exercise 1 Complete
You successfully moved 90 viable Lemon Cherry Gelato plants into the fictional immature batch LCG-IMM-001.
The original clone batch LCG-CLONE-001 still shows 10 remaining.
Those 10 correspond to the physical propagation failures observed earlier. They have intentionally been left unresolved in the source record for now.
Dead or failed plant material must ultimately be accounted for using the applicable jurisdiction’s current requirements and Metrc procedures. The Practice Lab is intentionally leaving this source batch open so you will encounter it again during later reconciliation.
What You Just Learned
Physical loss and regulatory inventory are related, but they are not automatically the same event.
In this scenario, 10 clones physically failed. Moving the 90 viable clones forward does not automatically make the remaining source-batch quantity disappear.
The important question becomes:
What still exists physically, what still exists in the record, and what action is still required?
That unresolved relationship is exactly the kind of issue inventory reconciliation is designed to identify.
Move Immature Plants Into Individual Tracking
The 90 viable Lemon Cherry Gelato plants from Exercise 1 are now established in soil and ready to become individually tracked plants. Your job is to move the correct quantity out of the immature batch and assign a unique fictional plant identifier to each plant.
Physical Cultivation Activity
Immature batch LCG-IMM-001 contains 90 viable Lemon Cherry Gelato plants in Propagation Room A.
All 90 plants have now been placed into soil and are ready for individual plant tracking. Cultivation employee Maya Chen moves them into Vegetative Room 1 on August 14, 2026.
For this independent training exercise, the plants will receive fictional identifiers beginning with LCG-PLANT-0001 and ending with LCG-PLANT-0090.
The unresolved 10 plants in LCG-CLONE-001 remain visible in the ledger. Moving the 90 viable plants forward does not resolve that earlier propagation issue.
Exercise 2 Complete
You successfully moved 90 Lemon Cherry Gelato plants out of LCG-IMM-001 and into individual plant tracking.
The immature batch now shows 0 plants remaining, while the active individually tracked inventory now contains 90 plants.
Individual plant tracking creates a one-to-one relationship between each physical plant and its unique tracking identifier. Exact tag assignment procedures, plant-stage thresholds, and reporting requirements vary by jurisdiction, so this exercise teaches the inventory relationship rather than a state-specific screen sequence.
What You Just Learned
The immature batch represented a group quantity. Once these plants moved into individual tracking, each physical plant became its own tracked inventory record.
Moving all 90 plants forward reduced LCG-IMM-001 from 90 to 0 while creating 90 individually tracked plants. The inventory changed form, but the total viable plant count did not magically increase or decrease.
The earlier clone-batch discrepancy is still unresolved. LCG-CLONE-001 continues to show 10 remaining, giving the learner a persistent issue to identify during later reconciliation.
Move Individually Tracked Plants Into Flowering
The 90 individually tagged Lemon Cherry Gelato plants are established in Vegetative Room 1. Move the same physical plants into flowering while keeping quantity, identifiers, location, and growth status aligned.
Physical Cultivation Activity
All 90 individually tracked plants, identified from LCG-PLANT-0001 through LCG-PLANT-0090, are ready for flowering.
On September 1, 2026, Maya Chen moves all 90 plants from Vegetative Room 1 into Flower Room 1.
No new plants are created. The existing individual plant records remain traceable while the physical location and growth status change.
Exercise 3 Complete
All 90 individually tagged Lemon Cherry Gelato plants are now in Flower Room 1 with flowering status.
Their fictional plant identifiers remain LCG-PLANT-0001 through LCG-PLANT-0090.
What You Just Learned
A growth-phase transition does not create new inventory. The same individually tracked plants remain in the system while their physical location and status change.
Create a Group Harvest
The 90 flowering plants are ready for harvest. In this exercise, all 90 are harvested together into one fictional harvest batch.
Physical Cultivation Activity
On October 20, 2026, Maya Chen harvests all 90 Lemon Cherry Gelato flowering plants from Flower Room 1 as one group.
The fictional harvest is named LCG-HARVEST-001 and begins with an illustrative 180 lb wet harvest weight.
The weight is fictional and is used only to teach inventory reconciliation. It is not a target yield or regulatory formula.
Exercise 4 Complete
All 90 flowering plants have been harvested together into LCG-HARVEST-001.
The training ledger now contains 180 lb wet harvest inventory in Drying Room 1.
What You Just Learned
Harvest transforms individually tracked living plants into group harvest inventory. Traceability continues because the harvest record is connected to the plants that created it.
Pull Dry Flower & Trim Packages From the Harvest
The fictional Lemon Cherry Gelato harvest has finished drying and post-harvest processing. Account for the harvest and create finished flower and trim packages.
Physical Post-Harvest Activity
LCG-HARVEST-001 began with 180 lb wet harvest weight. After drying and processing, the operation documents:
- 40 lb dry flower
- 8 lb trim
- 6 lb physical waste
- 126 lb drying / moisture and other supported post-harvest weight loss
The flower will be split into two fictional 20 lb packages. The trim becomes one 8 lb package.
These values are fictional and exist only to demonstrate the reconciliation concept.
Exercise 5 Complete
The full 180 lb harvest is explained by finished packages, physical waste, and drying / supported post-harvest loss.
What You Just Learned
Finished packages should be supported by source harvest inventory. The harvest must remain explainable through usable material, documented waste, and supported weight changes.
Final Inventory Reconciliation
Audit the entire fictional lifecycle from the original clone batch through finished packages and identify the issue that still requires follow-up.

Exact correction, adjustment, waste, destruction, and record-finishing procedures must follow the applicable jurisdiction’s current requirements and official Metrc guidance.
